In this profile, we’re excited to introduce Angela Linghu and Kevin Lian, co-founders of Apotherie, a traveling herbal apothecary rooted in the traditions of Chinese medicine and powered by the freedom of the open road.
A Journey That Blends Heritage, Healing, and Van Life
Angela and Kevin are second-generation Taiwanese-Americans who grew up in California surrounded by Chinese herbs and alternative healing practices. These early experiences laid the foundation for what would eventually become Apotherie—a small business devoted to wellness, traditional healing, and plant-based medicine.
Living full-time in their van gave them the flexibility to travel across the country, deepen their understanding of plant medicine, and bring their products directly to communities across the U.S. From deserts to forests to coastlines, they’ve found that van life allows them to stay close to nature while growing a sustainable business aligned with their values.
“We want to help people connect with the land and their own healing through ancient wisdom and modern accessibility,” says Angela.
Mobilizing a Modern Apothecary
Apotherie isn’t just a brand—it’s a mobile apothecary on wheels. Kevin and Angela have used their van to vend at markets, host workshops, and connect with others interested in natural healing and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM).
Their lifestyle is a seamless blend of slow travel, sustainability, and small business innovation. Van life enables them to source ingredients responsibly, take inspiration from diverse ecosystems, and spread awareness about the healing power of plants.
A Van That Supports the Mission
Their camper van, built with simplicity and intention, supports both their nomadic lifestyle and their work. The thoughtful design allows them to store herbal products, prepare tinctures, and maintain a mobile workspace—all while living comfortably on the road.
